In the early hours of January 7, 2025, Ghana’s 9th Parliament was officially inaugurated at Parliament House in Accra, marking the beginning of a new legislative session.
The historic ceremony, which followed the dissolution of the 8th Parliament at midnight, was attended by dignitaries, members of parliament (MPs), and key stakeholders in Ghana’s democratic process.
One of the highlights of the inauguration was Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin’s swearing-in as Speaker of Parliament. Bagbin, who served as Speaker during the 8th Parliament, was re-nominated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and received overwhelming support from MPs across the political divide.
Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo administered the oath of office in a solemn ceremony that underscored the occasion’s significance.
