In a heartwarming moment that underscores the spirit of pan-African collaboration, renowned Ghanaian digital marketer and PR practitioner Edward Asare extended a warm welcome to Tony Elumelu, the esteemed Chairperson of the United Bank for Africa (UBA), to the inauguration ceremony of John Dramani Mahama as Ghana’s president.
This notable encounter marks the third time these two figures have crossed paths.
Edward Asare and Tony Elumelu first met in May 2024 at the 3i Summit, an event celebrated for its focus Fintech. Reflecting on that initial meeting, Asare described it as a moment in his career, one that left an indelible mark on his professional journey.
The two later reconnected during the Africa Afreximbank Annual Meeting, a gathering that brought together Africa’s brightest minds to discuss economic growth and collaboration.
Asare’s admiration for Elumelu extends far beyond personal encounters. In an Instagram post commemorating the UBA Chairperson’s arrival in Ghana, Asare showered praise on Elumelu’s contributions to African entrepreneurship.
He highlighted Elumelu’s groundbreaking philosophy of “Africapitalism,” a vision that positions private enterprise as a driving force for Africa’s economic transformation.
Elumelu’s legacy is best exemplified through the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), an organisation dedicated to empowering African entrepreneurs.
Through its annual entrepreneurship programme, TEF provides $5,000 seed capital to thousands of entrepreneurs across all 54 African countries. To date, the foundation has supported over 18,000 entrepreneurs, catalysing innovation and creating jobs in diverse sectors.
Taking to Instagram, Asare shared a heartfelt message celebrating Elumelu’s arrival and reflecting on the inspiration he draws from their interactions.
