Renowned journalist Gary Al-Smith joins Sporty Group as Regional Content Lead in Ghana

Sporty Group has announced the appointment of Gary Al-Smith, a celebrated Ghanaian sports journalist, as the new Regional Content Lead in Ghana.

Known for his extensive expertise in African sports, Gary brings a wealth of experience and insight to the Sporty Group team.

Gary Al-Smith, recognised as one of the brightest stars in African media, joins Sporty Group after a distinguished nine-year tenure with the Multimedia Group Limited. There, he excelled as the Head of Sports across its radio, TV, and digital platforms, and played a key role in acquiring broadcast rights for major sporting events.

Currently honoured as Ghana’s Sports Journalist of the Year by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Gary has built a reputation as a thought leader in African sports storytelling. His work has been showcased on esteemed platforms such as CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, Sky Sports, New York Times, The Athletic, SuperSport, among others, solidifying his decade-long career in media.

Gary’s proficiency extends to collaborating with diverse teams for prestigious organizations like FIFA, UNICEF, and LaLiga, always bringing a local perspective to global assignments. His familiar presence on SportyTV, Africa’s top free-to-air sports channel, has made him a household name. Over recent months, he has regularly featured on key programs such as Sporty Live and the SportyShow, providing expert analysis and engaging with audiences continent-wide.

In his new role at Sporty Group, Gary is set to lead an innovative project in Ghana, underscoring the company’s commitment to expanding its influence in key African markets. His leadership is anticipated to enhance Sporty Group’s content strategy and strengthen its engagement with Ghanaian audiences.
