The leadership of the General Transport Petroleum Chemical Workers Union (GTPCWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has made a passionate appeal to President John Dramani Mahama, urging him to establish an Independent Non-Partisan Committee to review and conduct due diligence on the activities and performance of the outgoing Board of Directors of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).
GTPCWU has raised concerns that some members of the outgoing TOR Board allegedly made decisions without proper consultation with the full Board, leading to a lack of transparency.
In a statement issued on January 22, GTPCWU called for the TOR Board of Directors to be held accountable for all decisions that resulted in adverse financial consequences, particularly those driven by personal interests during their tenure.
“The leadership of General Transport Petroleum Chemical Workers Union (GTPCWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) wishes to call on the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, to constitute an Independent Non-Partisan Committee to review and conduct due diligence on the activities and performance of the outgone Board of Directors of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) (hereinafter referred to as “TOR BOD”).
“The individuals who were alleged to have spearheaded the affairs in the decision-making at the blind side of the TOR BOD were Mr. Apenteng, Mrs Sapara Grant and Mr. Ato Morission.”
GTPCWU contends that the actions of the former TOR Board of Directors indicate a deliberate attempt to involve certain individuals and affiliates from the previous government in partnering with TOR for various transactions, all conducted in a non-transparent manner.
“Therefore, sanctioning an independent and transparent review of TOR BOD’s actions will safeguard the public trust and ensure adherence to best practices in state governance, administration and financial management.”
