Some unidentified gunmen have ambushed and opened fire on a vehicle traveling from Kulungugu to the Bawku township.

The vehicle with registration number GA 4454-09 was under military escort.

However, the presence of the officers did not deter the assailants from engaging in the attack.

While no casualties have been confirmed, eyewitnesses say the shooting was intense.

The Bawku area remains volatile despite numerous measures to restore peace including the enforcement of a dawn-to-dusk curfew.

On Tuesday, January 16, President John Mahama visited Bawku and Nalerigu as part of efforts to seek lasting solutions to the conflict in the area.
