A Kia Rhino truck travelling from Bawku to Kumasi was ambushed and set ablaze by gunmen in Walewale on Tuesday, January 14 2025.
The incident occurred at a time President John Dramani Mahama is on a visit to Bawku and Nalerigu to address the ongoing chieftaincy conflict in the communities.
The truck, which was transporting vegetables from Mognori in the Bawku Municipality to Kumasi, came under attack in the North East Region.
Attacks on travellers along the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway have become increasingly common due to the prolonged ethnic and chieftaincy disputes in the region.
The incident highlights the pressing need for heightened security measures and sustainable conflict resolution efforts to ensure the safety of residents and travellers in the affected areas.
