The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti caucus in Parliament is demanding the arrest and prosecution of individuals linked to the violence that disrupted the Council of State election in the region on Tuesday, February 12.
The election in the Ashanti Region descended into chaos when a group of unidentified persons stormed the voting center, disrupting the sorting and counting of ballots, forcing the Electoral Commission (EC) officials to suspend the process.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, February 12, the Member of Parliament for Asante Mampong, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, condemned the violence and called for swift action.
“We ask, is this the democracy that the John Dramani Mahama-led government claims to uphold? Is this what the NDC means by governance? We will not sit idly, while the will of the people are subjected to violence and intimidation.
“As the Ashanti Regional Caucus of Parliament, we make the following urgent demands. One, immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators. The individuals behind this shameful act, including Zuba, must be arrested immediately and made to face the full rigours of the law.”
