Passport applicants and individuals in the printing business in the Ashanti Region have expressed enthusiasm over the introduction of a shift system in the passport registration process.
They believe the initiative will not only enhance their businesses but also streamline the application process, reducing pressure and providing much-needed relief to applicants.
This follows the Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s comment on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, that Passport Office staff should prepare for extended working hours, including day, night, and dawn shifts. A move that aligns with the government’s 24-hour economy initiative.
In response, passport applicants in the Ashanti Region have embraced the initiative, urging its swift implementation to alleviate longstanding challenges in the application process.
“I think it will help because there are people who work in the morning and close at night, so with that they can also come in for their application at night, so the night shift will help.
“I just went for my application and the date is 13th March, if the 24-hour economy with regards to the passport office is implemented, the 13 March will probably shift upwards.”They said.
Persons in the printing business near the Passport Office have also welcomed the move, highlighting its potential to boost their businesses. Many have expressed readiness to operate around the clock in support of the new system.
“If the office has decided to come on the night shift, we are also ready to help. It is currently just the morning and the afternoon shift, so if the night Is implemented, it will help us a lot, and we will get more money.” a printing business operator stated.
