A youth group in Bawku, calling itself the concerned youth of Bawku has called for an immediate cease-fire in the ongoing protracted conflict in the the area.
The conflict which ignited in November 2021 loosened up until October 2024 when it resurged after the return of a parallel chief to the area. In February 2025, the conflict escalated with passengers along the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway suffering higher casualties.
At a press conference in Bawku on Friday, February 15, 2025, the group called on the two factions to cease fire and also called on the National Peace Council, the National House of Chiefs, the Christian Council, the National Chief Imam and stakeholders to rise and speak against the killing of women and children in Bawku and Walewale for peace to prevail.
“Enough of the killing of women, children and other innocent lives in Bawku. We call on the voices of conscience the National Peace Council, the national House of Chiefs, the Christian Council, the National Chief Imam and the Catholic Bishop Conference to rise and speak the truth for lasting peace to return to Bawku,” Spokesperson for the Concerned Youth of Bawku Abdul Rahim Aguuri.
