Businessman Gabriel Atokple Kwamigah Tanko has been elected as the Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State, securing 24 out of 36 votes in the election held on February 11, 2025, at the OLA Senior High School Assembly Hall.
The race featured 13 candidates, but Mr Tanko emerged victorious with a decisive margin.
Voting began at 9:50 AM after initial agitations, and by the end of the process, he had cemented his place as the region’s voice on the Council.
After emerging winner of the election, Mr Tanko pledged to leverage the Volta Region’s economic potential for development.
Meanwhile, some candidates have accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of swaying delegates’ votes.
