President John Dramani Mahama has assured stakeholders that recommendations from the ongoing National Education Forum will be effectively utilized to drive meaningful reforms in the education sector.

Speaking at the forum’s launch in Ho, Volta Region, on Tuesday, February 18, the president reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that insights gathered will not go to waste.

He emphasized his government’s dedication to prioritizing education and implementing comprehensive reforms to enhance the sector.

“It must be our collective responsibility to make recommendations that are far-reaching, transformative, and necessary for developing the global Ghanaian. As a government, we are fully committed to this process. I want to assure you that your recommendations will not gather dust on the shelf,” Mahama stated.

To fulfill his campaign promise of engaging the public on improving Ghana’s education system—particularly the Free SHS policy—President Mahama appointed an eight-member committee on February 2, 2025, to organize the National Education Forum.

The committee, chaired by former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor George K. T. Oduro, includes distinguished educationists and policymakers such as Professor Goski Alabi, Professor Rosemary Bosu, Samuel Awuku, Ph.D., and Professor Smile Dzisi. The other members are Kofi Asare, Stephen Owusu, and Inusah Shiraz.

Under its Terms of Reference (TOR), the Planning Committee has been tasked with developing a guiding theme, identifying key stakeholders, and formulating a structured agenda. The committee is also responsible for selecting a venue, setting up a secretariat, and preparing a budget for the forum.

With a two-week deadline to submit its report and strategic plan, the committee is expected to lay the groundwork for policy decisions aimed at strengthening Ghana’s education system.
