Jerry Ahmed Shaib, President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) has revealed that plans are underway to host the African Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship, scheduled for August this year.
Ghana, since receiving approval from the Weightlifting Federation of Africa has since been in a preparatory mode to host a memorable event as they welcome top African powerhouses.
Ahmed Shaib, who doubles as the Member of Parliament for the Weija Gbawe constituency speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports announced that the formation of a Local Organizing Committee was in the pipeline.
“We will be consulting with the ministry to give us a representative and also to subsequently inaugurate the LOC to make Ghana and also Africa proud,” he said.
He assured that the LOC would work tirelessly to make the African Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship a success.
Kofi Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation also expressed excitement with Ghana’s bid to host the championship, which in the long run compliment’s government’s effort in developing sports in the country.
He said the facilities the Ghana Weightlifting Federation made available would empower athletes to yearn for more medals.
He said the Ministry of Recreation, along with other stakeholders, would work together to support the federation.
