The Ghana Publishing Company is set to implement a 24-hour policy beginning on March 3, 2025, according to Nana Kwasi Boatey, the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The newly appointed CEO of the Ghana Publishing Company first announced the immediate rollout of the 24-hour economy policy to enhance the firm’s production capacity at his handing-over ceremony on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

Speaking on the matter in an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Friday, February 21, Boatey expressed confidence in the company’s readiness to adopt this new system following thorough assessments and consultations with management, operations, unit heads, and unions.

“I told them clearly and set a date for the implementation of the 24-hour economy policy because when I went there the first day I was so sure that the place was ready to run a shift,” Boatey stated.

“We went through the assessment, I met the operations, I met the management and I was so sure that we can run a shift system and since then I have met the sectional heads, all the unit heads. I have met the unions all the people involved. We have discussed. Everybody is convinced that yes that is the way to go. So we are going to run a 24-hour shift starting from 3rd March.”

Boatey emphasised that the transition is not being rushed and detailed the shift system that will be implemented.

The company will operate two shifts: the first eight-hour shift will be followed by a four-hour break for machine servicing and cleaning.

The second shift will start at 8 PM and run until 4 AM, followed by another cleaning period before the next shift starts at 8 AM.

“We are doing two shifts. So this is what happens: the operations, the first eight hours finishes, these machines need to be serviced, the environment needs to be cleaned… So we take a four-hour break. Then another group starts at 8 PM and they do production till 4 AM, we do then we start another cleaning, and then another shift starts at 8 AM,” Boatey explained.

Boatey started that the engineers have confirmed the feasibility and benefits of the 24-hour shift system, which is expected to enhance the company’s productivity and efficiency.

“The engineers have told me this is possible. This is realistic and we have all seen the benefits that this will bring to us.”
