The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is calling on journalists to play a crucial role in promoting public awareness about the essence of National Chocolate Day.
The National Chocolate Day is celebrated in Ghana on February 14 annually to coincide with the Valentine’s Day celebration, to increase the local consumption of cocoa products, especially chocolates, while shifting the focus of the youth from immoral activities on the day to celebrating Ghana’s cocoa.
Jones Nelson, Head of Corporate Affairs at the GTA, emphasised the need for collective efforts to highlight the importance of Ghana’s cocoa industry and the premium quality of its products.
“We need your help. Over the years, the average Ghanaian has appreciated the fact that Ghana cocoa is premium and it is quality.
“On the world market, we are number one in terms of quality, but in terms of production, we fall to number two, now after Cote d’Ivoire,” Nelson stated.
Nelson outlined the necessity for a massive and continuous public education campaign that involves all stakeholders, including artisanal chocolate producers and COCOBOD.
“We can all support to lead a massive and instantaneous public education to bring on board all the stakeholders, artisanal chocolate producers, COCOBOD, and highlight at least once a week we can have them displaying their recipe. We can speak on it on a weekly basis. I think it can have a positive impact,” he added.
