Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak has announced plans to engage the Finance Minister, Dr Ato Forson for a possible introduction of tax credits to private corporations that donate to the National Peace Council (NPC)

This according to him forms part of strategies by the government to among other things generate adequate funding for the operations of the NPC.

Speaking during a familiarization visit on February 17, Muntaka accentuated the importance of equipping the Council to manage the resurgence of chieftaincy conflicts in parts of the country.

“We have seen in situations for lack of peace, people just loot because there’s some little confusion and people just go looting shops. We don’t pray to get there, to prevent that from happening, the Peace Council must be resourced. So that they can continue to engage and dialogue so that we can douse most of these fires [conflict]. And when these fires are off, we can have a peaceful environment to be able to operate.

“I will be talking to the Minister of Finance to encourage him to give tax credit to persons who donate to Peace Council. If you donate to the Peace Council, you can be receipted and use that to reduce your tax burden.”
