The NPP Youth Wing further emphasised the benefits of the allowances, arguing that these payments provide critical financial support to students in colleges of education and nursing training institutions.
They also highlighted that these schools remain colleges and have not transitioned to universities, which they claim undermines the government’s rationale for the policy change.
“We demand the government to act in truth and good spirit and maintain the allowances, not just because it was their campaign promise, but how the students benefit from same. It is lame to argue that, this government wants to cancel the allowances and rather improve the students’ loan facility for all students across third cycle educational institutions.
“The fact is that, teacher and nursing training schools remain COLLEGES and have not been given university statuses which would have made the government’s argument sensible.”
