Manaf Ibrahim, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for the Asawase Constituency in the 2024 elections, has joined mourners at the Buobai residence to commiserate with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase, Muntaka Mubarak.
Muntaka, who also serves as the Interior Minister, lost his 83-year-old mother, Hajia Saudatu Sulemana Muntaka, after a short illness.
Her passing came on the same day her son officially began his duties at the Interior Ministry, following his swearing-in by President John Dramani Mahama last week.
The Asawase MP has often spoken highly of his late mother, crediting her for his success due to her guidance and support.
Tributes have been pouring in from constituents, many offering condolences and praying for Allah’s mercy upon the deceased.
Manaf Ibrahim, who was Muntaka’s closest contender in the 2024 parliamentary elections, led some NPP executives to mourn with the bereaved family and offer prayers for the late mother of the Asawase MP.
Many praised Mr. Ibrahim for prioritizing unity and mutual respect over political differences.
Mourners appreciated the gesture, welcoming the NPP delegation led by Manaf Ibrahim.
During the heated political campaign, Alhaji Muntaka often reminded his supporters to see his opponent as a rival, not a permanent enemy.
Similarly, Manaf Ibrahim, who refers to the Asawase MP as his uncle and elder brother, urged his supporters to set aside political affiliations and work towards the development of the Asawase Constituency.
The final funeral rites and Islamic prayers for the late Hajia Saudatu Sulemana are scheduled for Sunday, 9th February 2025.
