The Pusiga Member of Parliament, Laadi Ayii Ayamba has provided new details about the disruptive events that unfolded during the Parliamentary vetting session on January 30.
According to her, the chaos was escalated when the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, ordered the disconnection of cables and equipment, further intensifying the disturbance.
Ayamba, who is also a member of the Appointments Committee, provided these revelations while testifying before Parliament’s Special Committee, set up to investigate the incident.
The MP recounted that the Minority initially declared their intention to walk out of the session, unwilling to continue with the vetting process.
Despite being encouraged to leave peacefully to allow the remaining members to proceed, the Minority MPs refused.
“We told the Minority that if you said you were tired, you should leave and let those of us who form qurom to continue with the vetting but they said no, they want to cause distraction,” she told the MP.
The situation quickly escalated when Annoh-Dompreh allegedly issued an order to disconnect the equipment, including the consoles and cables, just as the oath was about to be administered to the nominees.
Ayamba added that the Minority members, including Jerry and Hon. Baafi, began lifting tables in protest, which further disrupted the proceedings.
“It was when we asked the Clerk to administer the oath that the Minority started shouting, you this woman, you are an NDC woman and that is where I started calling on the Chairman of the Committee to call them to order and that is when Jerry came in and said they will not vet and by the time he tried turning, an order came from the Minority Chief Whip to disconnect the cables and so Jerry and Hon. Baafi started lifting the table.”
