Emmanuel Bedzrah, Chairman of the Parliamentary ad-hoc committee investigating the vetting chaos at the Appointments Committee on January 30, 2025, has announced that the committee will resume its public hearing on Friday, February 7, 2025.
This comes after the abrupt suspension of proceedings during the hearing on Wednesday, February 5. Initially, the suspension was attributed to a directive from Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.
However, it was later clarified that the Speaker was unaware of the decision, which instead came from the Clerk of Parliament.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Wednesday, February 5, the Ho West MP confirmed that Speaker Bagbin has now directed the committee to continue its work.
“I went with my committee members to find out what really happened because we did not understand. This is because the Speaker’s instruction, even yesterday, was specifically that the committee should continue with its work. So, we were confused as to what was really happening. They said that when the speaker gave the instructions, he said we should hold on. They spoke to the speaker, and he directed that since they apologise, we should hold on. I said no, that is not the instruction I received from the Speaker.
“The instruction I got, and everybody heard the speaker loud and clear, yesterday that the committee should continue its work. So, I called the speaker, and he said he had not given any instructions on how to stop and go ahead. So, in the chaos, we decided that we had already suspended it, and the way forward was to allow the speaker to return and give specific instructions. He will return on Friday and give his instructions as to the way forward.
