Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko has urged Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo to tone down, stressing that while the party encourages debate and expression of opinions, such discussions should be confined within the party’s internal structures.
According to Darko, the party’s leadership is taking steps to address Safo’s comments, which are seen as bringing the party’s name into disrepute.
He emphasized that members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are expected to share their opinions freely, but not in a way that damages the party’s reputation.
Darko noted that members with concerns should channel them through the appropriate internal mechanisms, such as writing to the party leadership, rather than airing them publicly.
“Today I have had calls from a lot of people, my constituents are calling the party leadership to ask her to tone down. We are a party of equals. We encourage debate, boisterous debate. We encourage the expression of opinions but it has to be within some confines.
“We all have a very big interest in the party so if you say things that will bring the name of the party into disrepute you may be called to order.
“We encourage debate among ourselves. We share opinions boisterously without fear or favour, That is what we expect her to do but not in the public domain. It doesn’t serve the good of the party. If you have concerns you can write to the party leadership,” he stated.
