The National Council of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has selected a three-member Elections Committee to oversee the Association’s national and regional elections scheduled for June 2025.
A statement signed by GJA General Secretary, Mr. Kofi Yeboah, announced that Peter Martey Agbeko, a Public Relations and Media Consultant, will chair the committee.
The other members include Beatrice Asamani Savage, Director of Editorial at the Ghana News Agency (GNA), and Mr. Kwaku Owusu Peprah, Channel Manager of Joy News.
The appointment, by Article 43(b)(i) of the GJA Constitution 2004, mandates the committee to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
Agbeko brings significant experience in GJA affairs, having previously served as Director of the Ghana International Press Centre (GIPC) and acting as Chairman of the Elections Committee in 2022.
Asamani Savage, with over three decades in journalism, and Owusu Peprah, the 2010 Journalist of the Year, also bring vast expertise to the committee.
GJA executives serve a three-year term, with elected positions including the President, Vice President, General Secretary, National Treasurer, Organizing Secretary, and Regional Chairpersons.
The elections, a key part of the Association’s democratic governance, play a vital role in strengthening press freedom and professional standards in Ghana. Further details regarding the 2025 elections will be communicated in due course.
