The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that 2 percent of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) will be allocated specifically for the development and promotion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the country.
This, according to the minister, marks the first time in Ghana’s history that a direct portion of GETFund will be set aside exclusively for TVET development, demonstrating the government’s commitment to strengthening vocational and technical education.
Haruna Iddrisu made this known while addressing members of the National Education Forum on Thursday, March 13, where he emphasized that TVET will receive the attention it deserves as a crucial component of Ghana’s education system.
In his remarks, the Education Minister reaffirmed that the government is committed to prioritising technical and vocational education, ensuring that it receives the necessary resources to train young Ghanaians with the skills required for national development.
“This year of our GETFund formula, will be the first ever allocation of at least some amount, 2 percent of GETFund to support technical and vocational education as a start.
“And we also intend to roll out what President Mahama will describe as the local scholarship initiative. Every public university will be given a certain support to train five PhD students beginning this year locally.”
