Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has raised serious concerns over human activity along railway lines, stressing that it undermines the safety of individuals
In an exclusive interview on Channel One Newsroom on Tuesday, March 18, the Director for Policy, Planning, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation of GRDA, Al-Amin Is-Hak Al-Hassan underscored that some individuals have metamorphosed some railways into sites to engage in economic activities.
Citing the dangers associated with this human behaviour, he called on the general public to keep off railway lines.
He emphasized the authority’s goal of ensuring that accidents along railways in the country are averted, reiterating the need for caution and ensuring public safety.
“We want to be sure that whoever we meet, we tell them not to come close to the railway line. It is dangerous. The trains can run over people and animals and please let’s keep our children away from it.
“Those who want to sell their items, don’t go onto the railway line, be at the railway station, use the recognised crossing points. If you are a motorist, please wait for the boom to come up before you cross. If you hear the siren, please stop.
“We wish that 10 years from today we don’t record any incidents on the railway line,” he said.
