Manhyia South Member of Parliament (MP), Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has cautioned against the potential dangers of removing the Chief Justice without substantial grounds.

Speaking on the matter, the MP emphasised the long-term implications such a decision could have on Ghana’s judiciary and governance.

“If today we are not careful and we allow the Chief Justice to be removed unless there is serious basis for it, tomorrow someone else will do it,” Baffour Awuah stated on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Wednesday March 26.

He urged the Council of State to carefully consider the gravity of the situation, warning that it could set a precedent that undermines the stability of the country’s legal system.

The MP’s remarks come amid growing debates about the petitions seeking the Chief Justice’s removal.

He stressed that any action taken must be backed by serious and credible reasons to avoid jeopardising the integrity of Ghana’s judiciary.
