The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Osman Ayariga, has assured that the National Apprenticeship Programme will focus on contemporary skills to ensure diversity and relevance in its implementation.
His assurance comes as the NYA takes on the responsibility of implementing the programme, which aims to equip young Ghanaians with practical skills for sustainable employment.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Channel One Newsroom on Wednesday, March 19, Ayariga, who also chairs the National Apprenticeship Programme’s Technical Committee, highlighted the growing importance of emerging fields such as content creation and photography as viable career paths.
He emphasized the government’s vision of creating meaningful employment opportunities for young people, underscoring the need to incorporate modern, in-demand trades into the programme.
“In times past, we never knew social media could even let people earn so much money, but today people on social media are able to create proper content and are making a lot of money. Hitherto, we didn’t even understand that photography could be a very huge industry.
“Today, photography is big, and it is actually coupling millions for so many young people. So we are not just looking at apprenticeship in terms of just dressmaking and hairdressing. We are also looking at contemporary demand so far as handiworks are concerned,” he said.
With this approach, the NYA aims to align apprenticeship training with current industry trends, ensuring that Ghanaian youth gain skills that are not only relevant but also profitable in today’s evolving job market.
