Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu has criticised the National Security over its handling of the recent raid on the apartment of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison.
Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Kpebu called for extensive reforms in the conduct of such operations, including the introduction and publication of a standard operational manual for National Security personnel.
He also advocated for the involvement of the police in cases requiring searches, arguing that the police service is better equipped to handle such matters.
“When you read the constitution, National Security is basically an intelligence organisation. Then, there are intelligence agencies within the National Security.
“So if they were looking for terrorism or counter-terrorism material or they were doing such investigations, everybody will understand, but when it is a simple search of a Governor’s home, we expect that it should be the police or the NIB.
“There should be what we call service instructions. There should be a manual that would detail how the searches should be done.”
