The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed claims that it is attempting to silence its members from airing their grievances.
This follows the party’s decision to refer former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, to its National Disciplinary Committee over her recent media comments on the party’s 2024 electoral defeat.
Speaking to Citi News, NPP’s Deputy General Secretary, Haruna Mohammed clarified that the move is not to suppress opinions but to ensure compliance with the party’s rules and regulations.
“Let me put this in perspective, nobody is asking that Adwoa Safo should not defend herself. The Aaron Mike Oquaye committee has not written anything about Adwoa Safo. So on what basis would Adwoa Safo call the committee as bogus? Is it also a defense or an attack on her person?
“She has the right to defend herself at any material point in time and nobody is going to fault her but we are talking about principles and party directives and rules that the general secretary has issued and what has happened within the space of less than 12 hours.”
