The 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for Tema Central on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ebi Bright, has been nominated as the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) in the Greater Accra Region.

Her nomination, announced in line with Article 243 of the 1992 Constitution and the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017, is currently pending approval by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.

However, the announcement has not been without controversy. Some residents and youth groups in Tema Central have staged protests to express their opposition to Ebi Bright’s nomination. Demonstrators, clad in red armbands and holding placards, gathered in front of the Assembly premises and through parts of the municipality, chanting slogans and calling on the government to reconsider the decision.

In response, some supporters of Ebi Bright have welcomed her nomination, pointing to her experience, visibility, and commitment to development in the area.

Meanwhile, Ludwig Totimeh has been nominated as the Municipal Chief Executive for Tema West. His nomination, like Ebi Bright’s, is subject to the approval of the respective Municipal Assembly.

The government is expected to formally present all new MCE nominees across the country, pending vetting and confirmation by the assemblies.

A full list of the appointees is attached below.
