President John Dramani Mahama has officially sworn in the recently appointed service commanders of the Ghana Armed Forces as members of the Armed Forces Council.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Thursday at the Ministry of Defence, ahead of a scheduled meeting of the Council to deliberate on key matters including promotions and the retooling of the military.

The newly inducted commanders are Major General William Agyapong, Chief of Defence Staff; Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, Chief of Naval Staff; and Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong, Chief of Air Staff.

In his remarks, President Mahama charged the commanders to uphold professionalism, discipline, and integrity in the discharge of their duties, emphasizing the critical role of the Armed Forces in safeguarding national peace and security.

The ceremony was witnessed by key members of the Armed Forces Council, including Minister for Defence Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for the Interior Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka, and Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

Also present were Secretary to the President Dr. Callistus Mahama, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide Joyce Bawah Mogtari, and other senior officials.

The Armed Forces Council is mandated to advise the President on matters relating to the organization and administration of the Ghana Armed Forces, including appointments and promotions of officers and personnel welfare.

The Council is expected to meet regularly to address strategic concerns aimed at enhancing the operational capacity and readiness of the Armed Forces.
