Margaret Naana Ackom has been confirmed as the first female District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa East, receiving unanimous approval with 18 ‘Yes’ votes in a confirmation election held at the Assembly Hall in Potsin on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
In the confirmation exercise, all 18 members of the Gomoa East Assembly—comprising elected assembly members and government appointees—voted in favour of her nomination, giving her a 100% endorsement.
The new DCE was part of President John Dramani Mahama’s nominated set of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) under Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended.
The confirmation was met with jubilation from friends, party faithfuls, and well-wishers.
In her acceptance speech, Naana Ackom expressed gratitude to the assembly members and the people of Gomoa East for their confidence in her leadership. She pledged to prioritize unity and inclusive development across the district.
“I’m humbled by the trust placed in me. I will work tirelessly to bring development to every corner of Gomoa East,” she said.
As the first woman to occupy the DCE position in the district, Margaret Naana Ackom also committed to supporting the advancement of women in leadership and community development.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Panyin; Member of Parliament for Gomoa East Constituency, Hon. Desmond Paitoo De-Graft; and traditional leaders within the Gomoa East enclave.
In his congratulatory message, Obrempong Akrampah, Omanhene of Gomoa, expressed optimism that Madam Ackom’s leadership would address critical challenges in the district, including infrastructure deficits, youth unemployment, and sanitation. He assured her of his full support.
Prior to her nomination, Madam Naana Ackom served as the Deputy Director of Welfare for the Central Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
