Mohammed Kassim has been overwhelmingly confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa West, securing 54 ‘Yes’ votes in a confirmation election held at the District Assembly in Apam on Friday, April 11.
The election, which drew support from 54 assembly members and government appointees, followed Kassim’s nomination by President John Dramani Mahama.
Kassim’s confirmation was met with celebrations from party faithful and key stakeholders who filled the assembly hall.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Hakeem Addae, Council of State Representative for the Central Region; Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin; Deputy Minister for Energy and Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, Richard Gyan-Mensah; and traditional authorities led by the Paramount Chief of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council, Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI.
Also present were the Central Regional President of the Ghana Bar Association, Adu Yeboah, former DCE Theophilus Adu-Mensah, NDC Central Region constituency chairmen, the DCE for Ekumfi, Ishmael Nana Asamoah, and several party executives.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Kassim, a two term NDC Gomoa West constituency chairman, expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and called for unity. “A district seeking development cannot succeed with a divisive front,” he said. “I will be a DCE for all.”
He pledged to begin broad consultations with stakeholders in the coming days, emphasizing that inclusive leadership and collective ideas are essential for the progress of the district.
The Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin commended the overwhelming endorsement.
“The number of votes polled by the new DCE means expectations are very high. He must deliver and unite the people. It is only through unity that we can achieve the development we all desire,” he stated.
The Deputy Minister for Energy and MP for Gomoa West, Richard Gyan-Mensah also welcomed the DCE’s message of unity.
“Just as the new DCE has pledged to serve all, I will also continue to be an MP for all. Together, we will work hard to develop our constituency,” he said.
Mr. Kassim is expected to assume office immediately and begin work on key development priorities for the district.
