MobileMoney LTD, the mobile financial services provider affiliated with MTN, has responded to a viral social media post alleging unauthorized withdrawal of funds from a customer’s account.
The customer claimed that her mobile wallet had been compromised without her consent, raising concerns among users of the widely used MobileMoney service.
In a statement, MobileMoney LTD acknowledged the social media report and clarified that its internal investigations had identified the incident as a case of social engineering.
The company explained that the breach occurs when a customer unknowingly discloses sensitive information, such as a One-Time Password (OTP) and other verification details, to fraudsters
MobileMoney LTD stressed that users must never share their PINs, OTPs, or verification links with anyone, even if they claim to be from the company.
