Sarkodie’s stylist expresses frustration over artistes throwing costumes during performances

Fashion stylist and creative director Trendy Rail has voiced her concerns over a trend in the music and entertainment industry that many in the styling profession find disheartening and financially straining.

Trendy Rail bemoaned the practice of artistes tossing costumes into crowds during performances.

Speaking on The Chat on Channel One TV on Saturday, April 12, hosted by Ekow Koomson, Trendy Rail shed light on what she described as upsetting and affecting stylists who work behind the scenes to help shape the image of some of the biggest names in the music world.

While it may appear like a fun and generous gesture to fans, Trendy Rail said that the throwing of costumes comes at a significant cost—both literally and professionally—to the stylists who work tirelessly to curate those looks.

Trendy Rail cited an incident involving Sarkodie during his 2022 Rapperholic concert, where the artiste, in the middle of a high-energy performance, removed a red designer jacket and hurled it into the enthusiastic crowd.

According to Trendy Rail, the jacket was worth £3,000 to £4,000, and its loss was a painful blow, especially considering the effort that went into selecting it.

“Some of these clothes are very expensive. If custom-made, they can cost between £8,000 and £10,000 but it is the artistes’ daily lives, and they don’t see anything wrong with the throwing of costumes, but for a stylist like me, I get upset.

“Sarkodie had this red jacket during the 2022 Rapperholic concert, he took off the jacket and threw it in the crowd and I kid you not, that jacket was probably £3,000 or £4,000.”

Known for her flair, eye for detail, and innovative styling concepts, Trendy Rail has built a reputable name across the continent, having worked with top-tier acts like Sarkodie, Burna Boy, Wande Coal, and Kidi.

She has also styled respected public figures such as media personality and entrepreneur Anita Erskine.
