Thank You Tour: Bawumia speaking from ‘Collective Standpoint’ – Ahiagbah

Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has dismissed claims that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is attempting to distance himself from the previous government’s failings during the party’s ongoing Thank You Tour.

The remarks come amid scrutiny of Bawumia’s public statements on the tour, with critics suggesting he may be trying to avoid accountability for the NPP administration’s perceived shortcomings.

Responding to the growing speculation that the NPP flagbearer is separating himself from the government’s record, Ahiagbah clarified that Bawumia’s tone and messaging should be viewed as inclusive and representative of a shared legacy.

“I don’t think he is distancing himself. It’s a way of speaking…If you listen to him, you’ll realise he is speaking from a collective standpoint,” Ahiagbah said on Channel One’s Newsroom on Monday, April 28.

He emphasised that Bawumia remains committed to the administration’s decisions and direction, having played a central role in governance.

“There is no way Dr. Bawumia will distance himself because we are all together in that decision. If he made any attempts to distance himself, perhaps I would ask questions myself,” he added.

Ahiagbah also questioned the logic behind any political advantage gained from distancing oneself, stressing that Bawumia’s messaging is grounded in unity, responsibility, and a forward-looking vision.

“What benefit would that bring to anybody to want to distance himself from collective efforts?” he asked.
