The Centre for Gender and Advocacy of Takoradi Technical University, CEGENDA, in partnership with Centre for Volunteerism and Social Transformation, CENVAST, have marked the 2025 Good Deeds Day with the donation of assorted food items and toiletries to the Catholic Special Vocational School at Fijai in Sekondi.
Good Deeds Day is a day celebrated by a global movement of people who are passionate and committed to doing good. The day has, since 2007, been celebrated annually by millions of people and thousands of organizations from 115 countries who meet to volunteer in doing good for mankind, especially the vulnerable in society.
Assorted food items, including bags of rice, drinks, soaps, and toiletries, among others were donated to the Catholic Special Vocational School.

Speaking Citi News at the 2025 celebration, the Executive Director of CENVAST, George Dorgbetor, said the funds were raised from the sale of plastic waste donated by ordinary people under the Plastic For Good Initiative.
“Prior to this day, we initiated the Plastic For Good Initiative where we encourage ordinary people to collect rubber waste and donate. We then sold the plastic waste for recycling, and the money raised is what we used to buy food items and toiletries. It is a joy because we’re doing good to the environment by collecting the plastics while doing good by putting smiles on the faces of these special students who need so much support from society,” he explained.
On its collaboration with TTU’s CEGENDA, George Dorgbetor said this is a strategic relationship CENVAST hopes to widen to the whole University to encourage volunteerism among the students and support the advocacy programmes of the CEGENDA in the University and beyond.

On her part, the Director of TTU’s Centre for Gender and Advocacy, Prof. Ann Doodo told Citi News the centre’s new relationship with CENVAST falls within its mandate of advocating for all groups and persons, including the vulnerable and hopes to formalize the relationship and deepen the spirit of volunteerism among students.

“This initiative is very important to me because TTU is doing inclusive education, and this being a special school with a lot of disabled people, it means we are bringing onboard more people who are physically challenged. With CENVAST, it is a good collaboration because they are a volunteering group and they do a lot of advocacy and so it will help us with our advocacy.
“We do advocacy in the communities to let women and people with disabilities know that they are all important with special abilities who can take advantage of our education to be more relevant in society. So we will nurture this relationship with CENVAST to do more,” she said.

The headmistress of the Catholic Special Vocational School, Rose Margaret Kwofie, thanked CENVAST and CEGENDA for choosing the school to mark the 2025 Good Deeds Day.
She appealed to other persons and institutions to support the school with, washing machine, good access road, renovation and expansion of hostels and classrooms, among others.
