The AI Explorers Club, a pioneering initiative by BrainWave AfricaTech Academy, has successfully concluded its first cohort in Accra—empowering children aged 8 to 16 with the foundational tools and confidence to thrive in the world of Artificial Intelligence.

Held in person, the programme combined interactive lessons in machine learning, generative AI, and ethical tech usage with a strong emphasis on creative expression. Over several weeks, young participants engaged in hands-on activities that brought AI to life in exciting, tangible ways.

What set this programme apart was its inspiring finale: a showcase where each student unveiled an original digital story.

These stories, co-created with AI tools, featured narratives written with AI assistance, layered with AI-generated background music, and visualized using custom AI-created imagery.

The showcase was a stunning display of imagination powered by technology, earning heartfelt praise from parents, mentors, and guests alike.

Shirley Maison, Director at BrainWave AfricaTech Academy, shared her excitement about the initiative’s impact:
“The creativity and enthusiasm displayed by our young participants have been truly inspiring. This program is a testament to the incredible potential of Africa’s youth in driving the AI revolution. We are excited to extend our collaboration to Achievers Ghana to train brilliant and underprivileged children within the same age group. We invite companies to sponsor a child to learn AI and be part of this transformative journey. Africa stands at a pivotal moment to harness AI technology for sustainable development, and initiatives like this are crucial in empowering the continent’s youth to lead the way.”

Following the success of this first cohort, BrainWave AfricaTech Academy has opened registration for Cohort Two, scheduled to begin on May 3, 2025.

With programmes like the AI Explorers Club, BrainWave AfricaTech Academy is laying the foundation for a new generation of tech-savvy African creators—bright, bold voices ready to shape the future of AI on the continent.
