The Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly has commenced a decongestion exercise in the Central Business District (CBD) of Kasoa, aimed at removing traders who have taken over pedestrian walkways and parts of main roads.

According to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini, the initiative is intended to restore order and ensure the safety of pedestrians in the area.

Speaking to Citi News, the MCE emphasised that the exercise will be sustained and cautioned traders against returning to their previous spots.

He further disclosed that plans are underway to relocate affected traders to a designated satellite market.

“We’ve had productive discussions with the Police Commander, and the issue was also raised during our recent security meeting. Additionally, I’ve held a separate meeting with the Regional Commander.

“We are in the process of forming a task force comprising personnel from the Immigration Service, Prisons Service, Fire Service, and the Police,” he said.

The MCE added that the new task force will work in conjunction with the Assembly’s own team to provide 24-hour patrols in the area.

“We have laws in this country to deal with defaulters, but I believe in dialogue. So, we will continue to engage the traders and intensify public education. However, those who choose to defy the rules and act as obstacles will face the full force of the law,” he warned.
