The Catholic University of Ghana has honoured former Minister of State for Tertiary Education, Prof. Kwesi Yankah, with a citation in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the institution’s development.

The citation acknowledged Prof. Yankah’s selfless dedication and invaluable support during the university’s mentorship under the University of Ghana.

His strategic guidance was instrumental in helping the Catholic University navigate the rigorous process of securing its own charter.

Prof. Yankah, a distinguished Ghanaian academic and author, has an extensive record of service in higher education. A professor of linguistics and oral literature with a specialization in the ethnography of communication, he has held several key administrative roles at the University of Ghana, including Dean of Students, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Head of the Department of Linguistics, and ultimately Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs.

In 2011, he was appointed President of Central University, where he worked alongside Rev. Prof. Addow Obeng, who served as Pro Vice-Chancellor at the time. Prof. Yankah is also a Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, inducted in 1999, and the author of several influential academic texts.

The Catholic University described Prof. Yankah’s mentorship as a cornerstone in its journey toward autonomy, applauding his commitment to excellence in tertiary education and his legacy of academic leadership.
