President John Dramani Mahama has announced that a comprehensive and actionable framework for his flagship 24-Hour Economy policy is now complete and ready for implementation.
Speaking at an engagement with some stakeholders on the implementation of the policy in Accra, Mahama disclosed that he had recently received the full draft of the policy from his advisor, Mr Goosie Tanoh and after thorough review, expressed confidence in its practicality and transformative potential.
“Earlier this month I received the complete draft of the 24-hour economic policy from my advisor Mr Goosie Tanoh. I have reviewed it and I am confident we now have a coherent actionable framework with which to deliver the results,” Mahama stated.
According to the president, the framework goes beyond just creating a stable macroeconomic environment, which he said is already being addressed through collaboration between the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Ghana. Instead, the plan focuses sharply on production, enterprise development, job creation, and export growth.
“At its core is an integrated value chain transformation approach,” Mahama explained. “This approach addresses structural bottlenecks not in isolation but comprehensively—through infrastructure-financed land systems, logistics, and skills development.”
One of the boldest proposals within the framework is the development of the Volta Lake Economic Corridor. Mahama described this initiative as a “national production zone and logistics spine,” centered on the Volta Lake and Basin.
The plan envisions the cultivation of over two million hectares of arable lakeside land, the revitalisation of the lake’s fisheries sector, and the establishment of a chain of industrial parks that produce goods for both domestic and regional markets.
“To support this corridor, the lake will be activated as a transport highway—moving food, people, and goods more efficiently than our congested roads allow us to do currently,” Mahama noted.
