Dollar gift: Sammy Gyamfi must disclose source of funds – Poku-Adusei

The Member of Parliament for Bekwai, Ralph Poku-Adusei, has called on Sammy Gyamfi, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (Goldbod), to publicly clarify the source of funds behind his recently publicised dollar gift to priestess-turned-evangelist Patricia Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa—a gesture that has sparked widespread discussion and speculation.

This follows the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) accusing the Goldbod Acting Chief Executive Officer of flaunting opulence and leading an ostentatious lifestyle.

Addressing a press conference, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye argued that the party’s concerns were further validated by Gyamfi’s mode of transport on the day the video was recorded.

In an interview on Citi Eyewitness News on Tuesday, May 13, Poku-Adusei emphasised the need for transparency and accountability, particularly in light of Gyamfi’s new role at the helm of the GoldBod—a strategic body established to manage Ghana’s gold.

“What could put an end to all the speculation, in my view, is for Sammy Gyamfi to come out and state clearly whether those funds belong to him,” Poku-Adusei said. “If they do, then he must explain how he acquired them—and more importantly, justify how he was able to come by such an amount.”

The MP insisted that providing answers to the source of funds and how he acquired them is necessary to restore public confidence and eliminate any doubts surrounding Gyamfi’s financial dealings.

“I strongly believe that in the interest of transparency and in putting clarity to certain matters, he is able to answer these questions. I am expecting that, as astute as he is in communication, he will certainly provide answers to put these matters to rest,” he added.

While acknowledging that owning a luxury vehicle such as a Range Rover is not unusual for a lawyer, Poku-Adusei cautioned that Gyamfi’s new position places him under greater public scrutiny.

“We are looking at someone who has assumed a position as CEO of the GoldBod, and clearly, we need to project public confidence in this Goldbod because it is fairly new,” he said.

“We are aware of the government allocating $279 million into this revolving fund for GoldBod. So if all of a sudden somebody who didn’t have a Range Rover 2025 is now seen driving one, then I think he owes it to the good people of Ghana to offer some explanations to put all these speculations to rest.”
