Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for the 2024 Bawumia Campaign Team, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to support the decision to hold early presidential primaries, describing it as a move that serves the greater good of the party.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Big Issue on Saturday, June 21, he stated that the National Council’s approval of January 31, 2026, as the date for the presidential primaries reflects a broader strategic vision for party unity and stability.
“I think it is in the interest of the party and anybody who has the NPP at heart to support this idea. We are reducing the picture to individual interest, and that is a problem. The National Council is looking at the bigger picture,” he said.
He emphasised that much of the disagreement surrounding the date stems from personal ambitions rather than the party’s long-term welfare, warning that such internal divisions could stall progress.
“If you are running a group, and you decide to rely on pure individual interest, you will never make progress. Our views will always differ. But we must be able to sacrifice the few for the greater good.”
His comments come in response to internal criticism of the party’s timeline, particularly after the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah, announced that the date was proposed by the Constitution Review Committee and ratified by the National Council.
Koduah also clarified that the decision will not be referred back to the delegates’ conference for another round of approval.
While the early primaries have sparked debate within the NPP, Miracles and other party communicators insist the timeline is necessary to ensure a smooth transition, resolve internal disputes, and prepare adequately for the 2028 general elections.
