Eight people have been arrested in connection with tribal violence in Nkwanta South, which resulted in three students being shot, with one confirmed dead.

On Thursday, June 26, two female day students sustained gunshot wounds while on their way to school.

The violence continued on Friday, June 27, when a male student was killed by a stray bullet inside his classroom during mock examinations.

As a result, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has ordered the immediate closure of Nkwanta Senior High School in the Oti Region.

Meanwhile, DSP John Nchor, the Public Affairs Officer of the Oti Regional Police Command, noted that, a full strategic security presence has been established in Nkwanta and its immediate environs.

“As I am talking, calm has been restored in Nkwanta following the recent violent incident. Swift and decisive actions have been taken to maintain law and order.
