Ghana is seeking the support of Burundi and Tunisia in its bid for the African Union (AU) Chairmanship position.

Speaking while receiving letters of credence from the new ambassadors of Tunisia, Burundi, Greece, Vietnam, and Jamaica, President John Dramani Mahama expressed optimism that the diplomatic ties between Ghana and the respective countries will be further strengthened.

He noted that the country will solicit support from the countries to secure the chairmanship position in the African Union (AU)

“I believe that closer coordination between Ghana and Tunisia in terms of the positions we take on different multilateral issues will be important going forward.

“Ghana is currently the second Vice Chair of the African Union, and we will be contacting your presidents in the near future because we are interested in the Chairmanship of the AU when it next becomes available, because it is geographically coming to West Africa.

“So we will seek Tunisia’s support when the time comes. We want to welcome you. I believe that developments in Africa are positive because they give us the opportunity to be able to enhance the economic relations between ourselves by trading together,” he said.
