Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu has pledged to prioritise infrastructure development at Sunyani Technical University (STU) as part of efforts to strengthen technical and vocational education in the country.

Speaking during the inauguration of the university’s governing council on Friday, June 27, he expressed deep concern over the current state of facilities on the campus and vowed to take swift action.

“One of my very early engagements with CHASS, I should thank you for hosting us at the Sunyani Technical University. It allowed me, after the CHASS meeting, to catch a glimpse of the school, its environment, and its infrastructure. I wasn’t excited at all, looking at the state of the infrastructure.”

He described the visit as an eye-opener and noted that the lack of adequate facilities undermines the quality of education and limits access for young people seeking to pursue higher education, particularly in specialised fields such as electronic engineering.

“It only woke me up that I have more to do as Minister to support you with infrastructure, particularly lecture theatres and accommodation to support the young people who are desirous of accessing higher education in the area of electronic engineering,” he stated.

The Education Minister stressed that addressing these challenges is crucial to meeting the growing demand for technical education and equipping students with the skills needed for national development.
