NIA staff return to work after suspending strike

Services at the National Identification Authority (NIA) have resumed after several days of disruption caused by an indefinite strike by staff over the delayed payment of their Operational Support Allowance.

The resumption of work follows engagements with key stakeholders, including the National Labour Commission (NLC) and the Ministry of Finance, aimed at resolving the impasse.

The NLC, in a directive issued on Friday, June 27, ordered the striking staff to return to work, describing the action as unlawful. According to the Commission, divisional unions do not have the mandate to declare a strike, and therefore, the walkout lacked legal backing.

In compliance with the directive, staff at the NIA have since returned to their posts, allowing operations to return to normal across the authority’s service centres.
