Voting activities have resumed at the St. Peter’s Polling Station in the Ablekuma North constituency after a brief but chaotic disruption during Friday’s parliamentary rerun.
Tensions spiked earlier in the day when a group of unidentified macho men stormed the polling centre, attacking individuals and forcing a temporary suspension of voting. Among those assaulted were New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate Nana Akua Afriyie and former Fisheries Minister Hawa Koomson.
Citi News‘ Jude Duncan confirmed that both Afriyie and Koomson were physically assaulted during the incident.
Security around the polling centre has since been reinforced to prevent further disruptions as constituents continue to cast their votes.
The rerun comes after legal and procedural disputes left the constituency without a Member of Parliament since last year.
Although the NPP leadership officially boycotted the process, its candidate Nana Akua Afriyie defied the party’s position and remains an active participant in the race.
