The Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, has officially sworn into office the newly constituted Governing Board of the Ghana Refugee Board (GRB).

At the swearing-in ceremony, the Minister emphasised the critical role the Board plays in promoting the welfare and dignity of refugees in the country.

He urged members to work diligently to ensure that all refugees within Ghana’s borders receive the necessary protection, care, and support.

The GRB currently oversees the welfare of over 20,000 registered refugees from about 40 countries, with the majority hailing from neighbouring Burkina Faso.

Alhaji Muntaka called on the Board to operate with unity, commitment, and a deep sense of transparency, accountability, professionalism, and patriotism.

He assured the Board of the Government’s unwavering support, adding that the Ministry of the Interior will continue to provide the needed facilitation to help them deliver on their mandate.

“The constitution of this new Board marks a significant step in reinforcing the management of refugee affairs and upholding Ghana’s longstanding humanitarian values,” the Minister noted.

Chairman of the newly sworn-in Board, Hon. Joseph Azumah, expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for the trust reposed in them. He pledged the Board’s commitment to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to enhance the lives of refugees in Ghana.
