A Volta River Aviation helicopter made an emergency landing Monday morning at Nkawkaw, near the Nkawkaw bypass in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region.

According to available information, the aircraft — a Jet A-1 with registration number 9G-AFW — was en route from Accra to Kumasi when the pilot was forced to land due to poor visibility caused by harsh weather conditions in the area.

Citi News sources at the scene confirmed that both the pilot and crew members are safe.

This comes a few days after another helicopter made an emergency landing at the Presby school park in Ajumako Kokoben due to adverse weather conditions.

The aircraft, bearing the registration 9G-ADW, was carrying four passengers when it ran into poor visibility and turbulent winds mid-flight. Faced with worsening weather and potential safety risks, the pilot made a precautionary decision to land in an open field that appeared to be part of a local school compound.

The unexpected landing attracted large crowds from the surrounding community, many of whom gathered in awe to witness the rare scene.

Local residents reported that the helicopter remained on the ground for roughly an hour as the crew monitored weather updates and ensured it was safe to resume the journey.

On Wednesday, August 6, a military helicopter crashed in Adansi Akrofoum in the Ashanti Region killing two cabinet minister – Edward Omane Boamah, Defence Minister, Murtalla Mohammed Minister for Environment – three government officials and three crew members.
