Deputy National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, has revealed that the party’s former Greater Accra Regional Director of Research, Emmanuel Nii Clottey, saved his life during the Ablekuma North election rerun.

Chris Lloyd recounted that Clottey came to his rescue when he was attacked by thugs at the St Peter’s Methodist Church polling station on July 11.

Violence broke out at the venue after a group of unidentified men invaded the polling station, launching attacks on several NPP members, including Chris Lloyd.

Video footage widely circulated on social media shows Chris Lloyd being brutally assaulted by the said individuals.

The incident brought voting to an abrupt pause and created fear and panic among voters.

In the video, Chris Lloyd is seen trying to escape but is quickly overpowered, pinned down, and subjected to continuous beatings.

Speaking after a visit from Emmanuel Nii Clottey, Chris Lloyd said he owes his survival to Clottey’s brave actions during the chaos in Ablekuma North.

“When everyone was afraid to come close, Emmanuel Nii Clottey stood up to ward off these thugs and risked it all. Not everyone will do this, and for that I say thank you and God bless you, my brother.”

Emmanuel Nii Clottey, who has announced his bid for the NPP Greater Accra Regional Secretary position, said he did what needed to be done for someone he considers family.

“The situation was bad, and someone needed to help. Chris is my brother, and I couldn’t watch those hooligans harm him, so I had to intervene, and I did so rightly.”

Still recovering from the ordeal, Chris Lloyd expressed deep appreciation for the support shown him.

“My brother Nii Clottey has come all the way to see how I’m doing. It tells you how he cares and how the party also cares,” he said.
