The Deputy Commissioner of the National Insurance Commission (NIC), Bernard Ohemeng Baah, has underscored the importance of innovation and resilience in the insurance sector.

He called on the insurance companies to take advantage of the government’s newly launched 24-hour economy, adding that the three-shift allowed insurers to reimagine their business models and adapt to changing consumer needs.

The Deputy Commissioner also addressed the need for companies in the sector to enhance their cyber resilience as they relied on the transformative power of technology to advance their business operations. He was speaking at the 8th Ghana Insurance  Awards.
The 2025 Ghana Insurance Awards (GIA) honoured 16 companies and 6 individuals for their impactful contributions to Ghana’s Insurance sector.

The event, powered by PayAngel aims to celebrate the achievements and innovations driving excellence in the industry, positioning companies and professionals as examples of best practices in Insurance, corporate social responsibility, standards, innovation and stewardship.
The awards ceremony, held annually, has grown in significance, bringing together top-tier professionals, key industry stakeholders to celebrate advancements and accomplishments in insurance management and corporate governance.

This year, the award category highlighted various aspects of industry excellence, such as life and non-life companies, re-insurers, brokerage firms, and other intermediaries, health insurers, actuarial firms, and other insurance services providers.

In his address to the gathering, Richard Abbey Junior, the Events Director at Xodus Communications Limited, emphasised that the Awards program remains a pivotal platform for fostering dialogue, facilitating networking, and disseminating best practices within the insurance sector.

“The annual competition consistently yields innovative products, which is encouraging. To enhance public safety, it is recommended that we mandate public liability insurance for event organisers”, he said
The event witnessed high-profile speakers including Abdul Razak Baaba, Deputy CEO, GIPC, Deputy Commissioner, National Insurance Commission, Bernard Ohemeng Baah, Spencer Quaye, Board Chairman DVLA, Rev. Eric Kwapong, Rev. Kwapong Ministries and CEO In Worship.
